But not long after the talks Celtics Rumors, Even before the NBA season came to a close on Thursday night, all eyes were on Boston, where the Celtics have been the focus for the past week ever since a trade rumor involving Kevin Garnett, Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers emerged.

But not long after the talks gained momentum, it was discovered that NBA rules ban teams from trading coaches or involving them in side deals attached to player trades.

In the wake of the botched deal, the Celtics are set to hold a news briefing on the future of the team on Monday according to ESPNBoston.com.

Here we'll get you caught up on the latest buzz surrounding Rivers' future in Boston.

On Friday, the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett reported that Rivers never intended to finish out his multi-year contract with the Boston Celtics according to a source.

In Bulpett's words: "Rivers never planned to be a part of the Celtics’ rebuilding process, and the club was basically aware of that fact when he signed his latest contract."

This report, if true, serves as yet another twist in the Rivers-Celtics saga.

Earlier this week it looked as if Rivers was poised to wind up coaching the Los Angeles Clippers next season, but NBA rules prohibit teams from trading coaches or attaching separate side deals to player trades according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne.

The rumored deal would have sent Garnett and Rivers to L.A. in exchange for DeAndre Jordan and two first-round draft picks. It was reported that the picks would be compensation for Boston letting Rivers out of the final years on his contract.

In Bulpett's report, he mentions that according to a source close to the situation in Boston, "Rivers was deciding between returning to the Celtics and stepping away from the game" before the Celtics gauged his interest in some of the other openings around the NBA.

The latest from Bulpett suggests that it's very likely Rivers could move on from basketball this summer and possibly take some time off to be with his family and see what opportunities open up down the road.

According to a report Wojnarowski on Thursday, the Denver Nuggets offered a first-round draft pick to the Boston Celtics in hopes of landing Rivers earlier this offseason.

Wojnarowski credits a league source for the information, claiming that Nuggets CEO Josh Kroenke made a bid for Rivers less than two weeks ago. The front office man apparently reached out to Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. According to Wojnarowski's source, the discussion was brief and never panned out.

The Nuggets fired the NBA's reigning Coach of the Year in George Karl earlier this month and have yet to sign a new coach.

Denver is just one of several NBA coaching jobs available this summer, but it remains to be seen whether Rivers is up to the task of coaching in 2013-14.

Monday's news conference should shed some much-needed light on Rivers and the Boston Celtics' future. But for now all we know for sure is that the champion coach is a wanted man around the league.
