Tara Reid Hoping For A ‘Sharknado 2, Tara Reid hopes to turn Sharknado into a franchise, but the odds may be against her.
The star of the admittedly campy Syfy movie said she had so much fun filming the movie that she would love to make a sequel. The movie was certainly popular enough, earning an immediate cult-like following and a buzz on Twitter for another movie.
“I actually can’t wait for Sharknado it might be even better then Snakes on a Plane,” Tara wrote on Twitter.
Though she was excited for the movie, Tara Reid said afterward she could have never expected such a positive reaction to the movie.
“I’m just so glad that people saw the humor in it that I did … because it’s hilarious,” Reid told TMZ, adding that the film’s low-budget nature was part of its appeal. “This movie was so ridiculous, you know? Like it’s almost so bad that it’s good.”
In the movie, Tara Reid teams up with her ex-husband, a bar owner played by Ian Ziering, to investigate why sharks are swimming through Los Angeles streets and dropping from the sky.
There were 1.37 million watching the Thursday night premiere and it had a great reaction on social media sites like Twitter, with up to 5,000 tweets per minute about the movie.
“It used to be you’d sit and watch movies with your family, and throw comments at the screen. Now with social media you can have that experience with millions of people. It adds so much,” Thomas Vitale, the vice president of movies Syfy, told The Los Angeles Times.
But even if fans and Tara Reid want a Sharknado sequel, Syfy execs haven’t given any indication. They’ve yet to announce any plans for turning the movie into a franchise.
While Tara Reid and Sharknado fans aren’t guaranteed a sequel, they will get another chance to watch the original. Syfy officials said after the popularity of the first one they are planning a re-broadcast.
