Birth On The Subway

Birth On The Subway, There was a birth on the Subway in Philadelphia on Tuesday when a woman went into labor while riding a subway car.

According to CBS Philly, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) officers said a woman spoke to them at the Olney station on the Broad Street Subway line, and told them that she had delivered a baby on one of the line's northbound trains.

She showed them a baby boy in her arms, and the officials noticed the umbilical cord was still attached, reports have indicated.

The woman explained that she had been on her way to a doctor's appointment when she suddenly fell into labor and delivered the baby.

Loyd Rodgers, a SEPTA Police Officer, then wrapped the newborn in a blanket to keep him warm, before calling for medical assistance.

According to the CBS report, Rodgers explained how commuters at the subway station all stopped what they were doing to take photos and congratulate the new mom.

"It was a celebration, a real celebration," said Rodgers, according to CBS. Rodgers described the mother and her baby as being very calm throughout the ordeal.
The new mom and her baby were taken to the nearby Einstein Medical Center, and are reportedly both healthy and well.
