Bob Barker animal rights activist

Bob Barker animal rights activist, Bob Barker, former Price is Right host, stepped up in October of last year to fund transport of three elephants from the Toronto Zoo to the Performing Animals Welfare Sanctuary (PAWS) in San Andreas, California. Now, the three elephants will receive a fabulous, private flight package on Barker airlines valued at $880,000.

Even though a truck was the preferred method of transport, it was decided that one of the elephants would not withstand the journey due to a foot issue. A Russian cargo plane was obtained, and Thika, Iringa, and Toka will now travel in crates to “elephant paradise.”

“They’ll have trees, elephants love to tear up trees, they’ll have all the trees they want to tear up,” Barker said.
PAWS is located southeast of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills, and the “elephant sanctuary has acres of land for the pachyderms to explore including lakes, hills and flatlands; plus there are other elephants on hand to meet,” said H. Scott English, a reporter at inquisitr.com.

The elephants should be transported sometime before May 15. PAWS describes its safe havens as, “places where abandoned, abused, or retired performing animals and victims of the exotic animal trade can live in peace and dignity.” The expanded land will greatly benefit the elephants that have a very limited space in Toronto. It’s thought that the climate will benefit them as well.

Barker is a long time and very public animal lover. He urged watchers at the end of almost every show he hosted to have pets spayed or neutered. In addition, “He has donated millions of dollars to various animal welfare efforts and lobbied Congress for a bill that would prevent circuses from using elephants,” says the Huffington Post.
Meanwhile, in Ireland, a baby elephant escaped from its circus handlers and ran through a parking lot. Perhaps he was trying to get to PAWS?
