The 30-second black-and-white clip called ‘From Marcy to Barclays’ features images of Brooklyn, the Empire State Building, album plaques, Rocawear clothes and the Barclay Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets, of which Jay-Z is a team co-owner.
“Wherever you grow up, it’s your root, and I’m a kid from the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn,” Hov says in the beginning of the ad.
“My goal was to have one gold album and that was it,” he continues. “I wanted to show that artists can ascend to the executive ranks. Rocawear just keeps reinventing itself and redefining itself every single day.”
The commercial, which was directed by photographer-turned-filmmaker Anthony Mandler, will start airing on BET, MTV and TNT during NBA basketball games.
