Megan Hilty Sean, The show may be over for NBC’s Smash, but critical darling Megan Hilty already has her sites set on another role at NBC. On Friday, it was announced that Hilty will be joining the peacock network’s new comedy, Sean Saves the World, which is set to premiere this fall. Hilty will actually have a regular role in the comedy, replacing Lindsay Sloane, who played the role of Liz in the pilot.
Sean Saves the World stars Will & Grace actor and frequent NBC contributor Sean Hayes as a single gay parent who has only recently taken over the full-time care of his daughter, Ellie (Sami Isler). In the series, Sean will have to learn to balance his personal life with that of his work life. The character of Liz pops up in the workplace side of Sean’s life and even appears briefly in the trailer, available below.
According to EW, Sloane left the show in May and will be replaced by Hilty as Sean’s “best friend and co-worker” moving forward. With a little luck this gig will mean Hilty will have something other than TV failures to sing about at the Tony’s next year.
Hilty and Hayes are not perfect strangers. The two recently appeared in plenty of scenes together in Smash when Hayes guest-starred in the musical-oriented drama as a comedian who doesn’t really understand the purpose of an overly dramatic play. I actually thought the two showed a lot of comedic chemistry together during Smash and can hopefully continue to do so when Sean Saves the World airs next season. NBC’s schedule next fall has Sean Saves the World slotted into the Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET slot.
