The Texas shooting spree which took place about 250 miles southwest of Dallas ended when state law officials shot the gunman, reported Reuters on May 26, 2013.
The gunman was killed in a shootout with a Highway Patrol trooper and game warden who arrived to assist the sheriff,” according to a statement released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Texas shooting spree began when the 23-year-old man from North Carolina opened fire on a vehicle near Eden in Texas. One woman was shot. She was taken to Shannon Medical Center where she remains hospitalized as of Sunday night.
A short time after the first shooting, the Texas shooter shot two people who were sitting in their vehicle outside a convenience store in Brady. Both people were injured but were released from the hospital on Sunday.
Around 5:30 a.m., the third Texas shooting incident occurred after the 23-year-old man had driven back to Eden. He fired at another vehicle injuring a fourth victim who was also released on Sunday.
Shortly after 6 a.m., the Texas shooter targeted another person sitting in her car in the Eden area. The woman, 41-year-old Alicia Torres, was shot dead in her car.
Around 6:15 a.m., Concho County Sheriff Richard Doane was able to catch up with the Texas shooting suspect north of Eden on U.S. Highway 83.
This time, the 23-year-old shooter fired shots at the sheriff’s car. The sheriff was wounded with nonlife-threatening injuries and was admitted into Shannon Medical Center. The sheriff was the fifth person injured during the Texas shooting spree.
Around 6:30 a.m., two hours after the Texas shooting spree had begun, it came to an end.
In a shootout with a Highway Patrol trooper and a Parks and Wildlife game warden who had arrived at the scene to assist Concho County Sheriff Richard Doane, the 23-year-old Texas shooting suspect was killed.
As of Sunday night, the name of the 23-year-old who went on a Texas shooting spree has not been released.
