Skydiver falls to death, A skydiver has fallen to his death in Southern California on Saturday, shocking locals as he fell into someone's backyard in what appears to be a tragic accident. The 62 year old victim has been identified as Ken Oka of Mira Loma.
Officials have already conducted a preliminary investigation report which states that Loma was part of a group of skydivers who were attempting a multiple person maneuver over Riverside County on Saturday. However, as the group were conducting the maneuver, Loma became entangled in his parachute.
Despite fighting to free himself, it appears as though he was unable to untangle himself in time and he plummeted to the ground.
Authorities were immediately notified of the incident and that a single skydiver had likely fallen to his death. Police later found Loma in the backyard of a Lake Elsinore home.
He was rushed to a local hospital but was later officially pronounced dead. UT San Diego has reported that police and the Federal Aviation Administration are both conducting independent investigations into the tragic incident.
Skydiving is the action sport of exiting an aircraft and returning to Earth with the aid of gravity while using a parachute to slow down during the terminal part of the descent. It may or may not involve a certain amount of free-fall, a time during which the parachute has not been deployed and the body gradually accelerates to terminal velocity.
The history of skydiving starts with Andre-Jacques Garnerin who made successful descents using a canvas canopy and small basket, tethered beneath a hot-air balloon
