Jay-Z under investigation by NFL: May have violated league recruitment rules, When Jay-Z sold his percentage of the Brooklyn Nets his next business venture was to launch his own sports management firm. However, according to TMZ on Sunday, May 26 the business is already at the center of an investigation by the NFL concerning their recruitment of New York Jets draft pick Geno Smith.
The Jigga Roc Nation Sports owned by Jay-Z signed Geno Smith this past week. A picture surfaced on Instagram before the official announcement came out that welcomed Smith to the sports management team.
Because Jay-Z isn't an oficial certified agent of the NFLPA, he should not be directly involved with client recruitments.
Another situation that surfaced, giving further speculation to Jay-Z's involvement was a quote that was sent out by Geno Smith's adviser John Thornton. The quote claimed that Smith and Thornton were in meetings with Jay-Z. Although, Thornton later recainted his quote, it still prompted further investigation by the NFL over the violation of recruitment rules.
