NBA tampering, The Rockets were among three teams fined by the NBA for violations of league tampering rules because of a series of stories produced by the club’s website analyzing the play of free agents, a person familiar with the decision confirmed Monday.
USA Today reported the fines, with ESPN listing the Rockets among the teams cited by the league.
The stories on the Rockets’ website did not cite potential destinations for any free agents and offered no analysis of the team’s interest in any specific player. The stories, since removed, offered statistical analysis of about 70 NBA players.
The Atlanta Hawks were penalized for sending an email to season-ticket holders citing the potential increase in demand in tickets if the team successfully signs Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.
