Dog guarding tornado victim

Dog guarding tornado victim, The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) released on its Twitter's page on Monday a photo of a mud-splattered black dog found sitting in the debris of a flattened home in the aftermath of the tornado that smashed through the suburb of Moore.

The photo was posted with the comment: "Scared but this little pup survived."
Sheriff's deputies later learned that the dog was guarding his owner's body recovered in the rubble of what used to be their home.

CBS Atlanta reports the dog was taken to a shelter and the deputy who found him is hoping to adopt him.

Sheriff's deputies posted to Facebook a photo of the dog with a comment at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday: "The dog was taken to a shelter and the deputy who found the pup, if possible, plans on adopting the dog, Man's best friend to the end."

According to the Daily Mail, survivors searched for their pets after the tornado ripped through the densely populated suburb.

Reddit users have started a missing pets thread. Some local groups have also been working to reunite pets with their owners.

A notable story was that of Barbara Garcia who found her dog beneath the rubble during a CBS interview. The dog emerged from the rubble while Garcia spoke to CBS about the devastation.

Another family, the Hendricks, located their pair of chihuahuas, Lola and Louis, in the debris of their home when they heard the sound of the dogs whining.

Hendrix told NBC News: "That's how we pinpointed where they were and started digging at that point. Their kennel was smashed down on top of them.

The car was sitting on top of the kennel. We had to pry the kennel out from underneath the car and then pry the kennel apart to get them out. They were both wrapped around each other and inside a comforter. They were toasty warm. And both of them were just tickled to death to get out."
