Eastbound & Down

Eastbound & Down, HBO has made official its plans to conclude Eastbound & Down. The network announced Thursday that the comedy will end with its fourth season.

News of the series' impending finish comes a day ahead of production resuming in North Carolina. The final run will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 10 p.m.

Produced by Jody Hill, Danny McBride, Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy and Adam McKay, Eastbound stars McBride as former Major League pitcher Kenny Powers. HBO expressed a strong interest in continuing the series beyond the upcoming run, but the creative team behind it wanted an end-game.

The series was first rumored to be ending its run following its third season, with McBride even saying as much at the series' 2012 PaleyFest panel.

HBO has been aggressive in building its comedy slate. Veep and Girls were both renewed for third seasons, and Christopher Guest entry Family Tree is currently airing its freshman run. Stephen Merchant's Hello Ladies is set to launch on the network in September, and other series orders include Getting On from Big Love creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer, an untitled half-hour entry from Mike Judge and the untitled gay-themed comedy starring Jonathan Groff.
Mark and Jay Duplass' Togetherness received a pilot order earlier this year.
