Lisa Kudrow Vassar college

Lisa Kudrow Vassar college, I got fired from Frasier," said actress Lisa Kudrow.

It was Lisa Kudrow's biggest Hollywood heart break, but it was just one twist on her windy road to success.

"It was a good thing I didn't get Saturday Night Live, that Romy and Michelle pilot didn't work out, and every other disappointment that happened. They were more like guide posts that kept me on my path," said Kudrow.

Kudrow told this to 602 Vassar College graduates as she delivered the school's 146th commencement address. She said her path eventually lead her to the role of Phoebe on the hit sitcom Friends. It's a remarkable journey seeing when she graduated Vassar in 1985, it was with a biology degree and a job with her dad doing headache research. It would not be long before research took a back seat to acting. She told the graduates you must surrender to what you love and it will pay off in long run.

"Overtime you will demonstrate who you are and what you bring to the field. Just stay with it and keep working," said Kudrow.

Kudrow's positive message resonated with graduates as they head off into a still uncertain work world.

"You can't control what's around you. You can only control your outlook and your attitude. So, I am excited and I am ready," said Bonnie Velez, Vassar Graduate.

As the class of 2010 leaves Vassar College, its most lasting mark might be what it leaves behind. The class gave the school a $66,000 gift that will set up an endowment and provide scholarships for future Vassar students.
