This is a heartbreaking update, but it's nothing new after two years of covering the missing IU student's disappearance.

As of June 1, 2013, numerous news sources are abuzz with these same sentiments as they acknowledge the second year of her unsolved disappearance. This update comes not long after one of the men to last see the missing woman came out with accusations of harassment against her family.

As the second year of her disappearance begins, it's hard to imagine where the missing Bloomington, Ind. woman could be. Officials are reportedly weighing the investigation on two theories: Either she died and her friends disposed of her remains, or someone kidnapped her as she walked home the night she disappeared. Both theories have their strong and weak points, and both are equally believable. However, without even so much as a body of evidence it's hard to lean either way as far as theories go.

So what happened to Lauren Spierer the night she vanished? Is it possible that she was kidnapped and is being held alive somewhere like Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight? These scenarios are extremely rare and it's unlikely that this happened. Nonetheless, it's still a possibility.

It's even more likely that the missing fashion student died. Lauren suffered from a heart condition that required her to take daily medication. It's rumored that during her night of binge drinking with friends she may have died from a cocaine overdose. Early in the investigation officials acknowledged this rumor as a possibility. On the other hand, her disappearance has been speculated as connected to the disappearances of Holly Bobo, Katelyn Markham and many other attractive women in the southern and Midwestern states.
