Former student teacher, At least one more person has come forward to say he, too, had a sexual relationship while he was a student of a 28-year-old Redlands teacher police say had a child with a now-17-year-old former student.
Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, who has been put on leave from Citrus Valley High School, was arrested Monday, July 1, on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Charges have not been filed.
The Redlands Daily Facts reports that a man who is now 22 years old said he had sex with Whitehurst during his junior year in 2007. He was in her English class at the time, the newspaper reports.
The man has filed a report with the Redlands police department, the Redlands newspaper reports. The newspaper did not publish the man’s name because he claims to have been a victim of sexual assault as a minor.
KABC-7 reported on its 11 p.m. newscast that Michael Cooper, 23, said he had a yearlong sexual relationship with Whitehurst in 2007 while she was his English teacher. ABC said their interview with Cooper was exclusive.
