(Tami Chappell – Reuters) The Atlanta Falcons took another step toward establishing themselves as a legitimate NFC title contender with their 27-21 win against Denver on “Monday Night Football.”
But, no one is ready to crown the Falcons as NFC South champs after two weeks of the season — even if running back Michael Turner is partying like they’ve already wrapped things up.
The 30-year-old running back was arrested early Tuesday morning for drunken driving and speeding just hours after he scored a touchdown in Atlanta’s win.
Turner, who was driving his black Audi R8 on Interstate 85, was clocked at 97 mph — 32 mph over the speed limit — just north of Atlanta, police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter told the Associated Press. He was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail and released after about two hours on $2,179 bond, according to jail records.

Sheriff’s Dept. – AP) “The officer made contact with the driver who identified himself as 30-year-old Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons,” Ritter said in a news release. “The officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation.”
The Falcons acknowledged that they are aware of the situation but offered no further comment.
Turner, who set a franchise record with his first-quarter score on Monday — his 51st as a Falcon — rushed for only 42 yards on 17 attempts against the Broncos. Through two games, Turner, nicknamed “The Burner,” is averaging a meager 2.6 yards per carry. His previous career low was 4.1 yards per carry during the 2010 season. Turner has scored at least 10 touchdowns in his first four seasons in Atlanta.
