But Bruce Jenner today appears to have chiselled away at the masculine features that graced Wheaties boxes decades ago.
The reality star, better known now as Kim Kardashian's step-father, was barely recognisable from the retro image as he stepped out for a promotional event this weekend, his face looking distinctly tighter than usual.
Bruce, 62, posed next to the photo of himself in his prime, printed in black and white on the orange Wheaties box at Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, where he greeted fans on Saturday.But sitting next to the image, the change in his features was made all the more clear.
His thinned nose, tweezed eyebrows and defined jawline were distinctly different from the Seventies track and field photo on the cereal box - and far more feminine. And compared to other photos of the decathlon athlete in the Seventies, Bruce today was barely recognisable.
The star has admitted in the past to going under the knife initially in his mid-thirties in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
He once said in an episode of the show: 'If you Google my name, the worst plastic surgeries of all time, or whatever it is... They’ve compared me to Michael Jackson.'
He famously attempted to correct what he considered a botched surgery in 2009, when his step-daughter, Kim, confirmed then long-held rumours about his suspiciously-taut face.
She explained: 'Twenty five years ago, Bruce was ill-advised by a doctor to have a partial facelift and a nose job.
'Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what Bruce had hoped for and for years since then he has been the victim of cruel taunts from the media.
'Since he’s turning 60 in October, Bruce felt it was time to correct the mistakes made by the previous doctor so he went to a new doctor for a second facelift.'
In a follow-up interview with Access Hollywood, Bruce explained he 'was just going through a bad time' when he decided in the Eighties cosmetic surgery might be the right solution.
'I had just gone through my second divorce, lost a lot of money. I was in a little dinky house,' he continued.
The star also admitted he kept the latter surgery a secret for some time - and appeared happy with the result.
'I had it done and not even my close friends knew I had it done,' he said. 'I mean that’s how good of a job they [did].'
