Fox '24' return said to be in the works, While it is not a done deal by any means yet, it seems that the network is looking to bring the hit show back as a “limited series,” and some of the previous players are already ready to sign on for the gig.
While there is no official word as to whether Kiefer Sutherland would be game to reprise his character of Jack Bauer, former showrunner Howard Gordon and former executive producer David Fury say they are game. Deadline says that Gordon pitched the plan for a Fox “24” return, and the network jumped at the chance to discuss it.
In theory Kieferland is available, as his most recent show “Touch” has been canned. As fans know, a “24” movie was on the brink of development for quite some time before it finally died a slow, painful death. The idea being developed now is a new story arc starting from scratch, and it seems that would give production plenty of flexibility regarding returning cast. Would a “24” return appeal to viewers without Jack Bauer though?
Entertainment Weekly's latest update gives the impression that Kiefer Sutherland is already on board. They also note that Fox is said to be looking at a 13-episode order for the new version of the show. Granted that means a shift in the premise of the original series, where each episode covered one hour in a full day of Jack Bauer's never-ending drama. There's no word yet on how the show would evolve in its new version.
The network does its upfront presentation on Monday, so there may be more word coming on a Fox “24” return very soon.
