Joe Flacco the R-word, Joe Flacco's “the R-word” pledge has people talking Monday, and NBC Sports shared the details. News came out on May 20 that Flacco, along with Baltimore Ravens teammates Ed Dickson and Gino Gradkowski, signed a pledge not to use the word “retarded” anymore. As fans remember, Flacco got a lot of heat for using this word just before the Super Bowl.
The pledge comes after Joe Flacco said he thought playing the Super Bowl in New Jersey was “retarded.” He quickly corrected himself and apologized, but now it seems he's taking things a step further. Joe Flacco's “the R-word” pledge is an effort with the Maryland Special Olympics group to stop using the word in casual conversation.
The Maryland Special Olympics Twitter page shared a picture of the group holding up their signed pledges. Will Joe Flacco's “the R-word” pledge spread awareness to others and help end the use of the word that is offensive to many? Only time will tell, but having these guys on board certainly can't hurt.
