Bruno Mars tells Rolling Stone that "When I Was Your Man" was written from Jessica Caban, Bruno Mars has revealed the inspiration behind his hit "When I Was Your Man." The singer, who is gracing the cover of "Rolling Stone" for the first time in the career, tells the magazine that the poignant ballad was actually written for his current girlfriend model Jessica Caban.
He wrote it during a rocky period in their relationship, when he feared he was losing her. But the pair has since reconciled, and Bruno says it's "just like bleeding" when he plays it live.
Mars, who ditched his signature fedora to sport a flashy animal-print shirt for the cover, is also opening up about his family's history in the entertainment business, and how he started out as an Elvis Presley impersonator for their band at the age of two.
Bruno's family hit tough times and struggled to pay the bills. But he says he "wouldn't trade it for anything," because it allows to enjoy what he has now even more.
