Kate Middleton is pregnant with a royal baby, Kate Middleton is certainly no stranger to the royal baby buzz. But this week it reached a feverish pitch as the Duchess stepped out for several public appearances.
It's not that Kate's sporting a baby bump, she's not in the least. But there are other subtle signs, many of them evidenced by photos (click through the slideshow above), that Kate Middleton and Prince William may soon be announcing some happy, and very highly anticipated, baby news.
Here are 10 hints pointing to Kate Middleton being pregnant:
She Loves Babies: Sure politicians and royals love a good baby photo-op, but Kate seems to take it to a new level. During an appearance in Cambridge on Wednesday the 30 year old stopped in a packed crowd to talk with a mom holding her little boy. Kate tickled the child's feet and took a real interest in him even blushing when she found out the child was given his middle name - William - after her husband.
Coat Doesn't Come Off: During her last three appearances, all of them indoors, the Duchess of Cambridge has not removed her coat. Could it be a sign she's concerned that shedding that extra layer will expose a royal baby bump?
Black, Black, Black: Kate's been covering up with not just coats, but a lot of black. In fact, the last two times she did shed her coat, it was only to show off a black dress. Black is considered a slimming color and many expectant moms use it to hide a bump early in their pregnancies before they're ready to announce their big news.
Big Smiles: Kate Middleton is known for always having a smile on her face, but during her last few appearances, she also appears to have even more of a twinkle in her eye. In several photos she's seen sharing a special look with Prince William. Could it be they have a shared secret?
Body Language: Kate's body language is definitely telling. On several occasions, in Cambridge, she was snapped appearing to cradle or touch her stomach. It's an unconscious behavior many expectant moms experiences. While some point to Kate also using her clutch to cover her abdomen, that seems more of a habit than a hint that she's attempting to hide a pregnancy.
New Hair Style: Princess Kate's new hair style is perhaps the biggest hint she may be pregnant. Kate's bangs and new layers have drawn a lot of media attention. The new 'do timing couldn't be better, if she is pregnant. Cutting her hair is giving the media and royal fans something to talk about other than the royal baby buzz. In other words, consider the fringe a distraction.
William Accepts a Baby Gift: Prince William graciously accepted a baby gift during the royal couple's appearance in Cambridge this week. Not only did he thank the woman who gave it to him, but he said "I'll hold onto that." It would seem slightly odd for Kate or William to accept a baby gift if they weren't expecting a baby or, at the very least, actively trying to start a family.
Water Over Wine: It was more than two months ago, but few have forgotten that Kate declined wine and instead opted for water not just once, but twice during the Diamond Jubilee Tour of the Far East. It's been widely considered a sign that the royal couple was at least considering a potential pregnancy.
Pregnancy Claims: Kate Middleton's longtime friend, Jessica Hay, has now made two public statements that the Duke and Duchess are expecting an heir to the throne. Hay first made the statements during an interview with an Australian magazine. Now she's backed up her claims with a second interview with Life & Style. Hay says she has it on the "highest authority" that Kate is pregnant and the couple will make the official baby announcement in December.
Royal Move: Kate and William are moving from Wales to London in 2013 to make Kenginston Palace their home base. While Prince William has not announced if he will leave the RAF (he's based in Wales) to become a full-time royal, but it's been reported Kate's been pressuring him to give up the air force for an heir.
