Rapper overdose: Cause of death for Kriss Kross rapper is a drug overdose, Rapper Chris Kelly died of a drug overdose, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office. Kelly is from the rap group Kriss Kross, which was popular in the 90s. He was found dead on May 1, but the official cause of death was just released according to Fox News on July 1, 2013.
The rapper's overdose of drugs is what killed him, as Betty Honey from the medical examiner's office said he had a mixture of drugs in his system when he died. She did not know the specific names of the drugs that killed the rapper.
An overdose of drugs was suspected when Kelly was found dead, but the toxicology test, which just came back made it official, the rapper died of an overdose. The rapper's mother told authorities he had a history of drug abuse and had used heroin and cocaine the night before he died.
Deemed “Mac Daddy” in the rap world, the rapper performed with Chris Smith, known as “Daddy Mac.” The two formed the duo Kriss Kross. The song “Jump” is probably their best known tune, which came off of their debut album in 92, called “Totally Krossed Out.”
