Michael Strahan Takes Heat From Warren Sapp, Michael Strahan wasn’t elected to the 2013 NFL Hall of Fame class this season while Warren Sapp received the honor next to legendary coach Bill Parcells and other NFL greats.
The seven-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants is expected to be elected within the new few years, but Sapp believes the 41-year-old wasn’t all that great in the first place.
When it comes to being an electrifying football player, the 40-year-old Sapp was right at the top throughout his career. He always found a way to get the job done while becoming a fan favorite.
He last played for the Oakland Raiders during the 2007 season, but that hasn’t stopped him from speaking out about his fellow defensive tackle in Strahan after leaving the game.
“Nobody ever talks about Simeon (Rice),” Warren Sapp said while speaking to the Tampa Tribune on Wednesday. “Simeon was a better rusher than Michael Strahan any day of the week and twice on Sunday.”
Those are some pretty strong words for a guy that hasn’t been on the field since retiring in 2008. The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year didn’t stop there as he went on to say that Strahan primarily played on the right end during his career, which he believes faces off with the worst position on the offensive line.
“(Rice) didn’t rush the worst lineman,” Sapp explained. “You know, the right tackle is the worst of the five. Strahan played right end his first four years.”
He wasn’t holding back, which isn’t that surprising as he’s always been a guy that voices his opinion. Sapp obviously doesn’t believe Strahan was that great of a player, but the numbers will tell you otherwise.
Strahan is currently fifth on the NFL’s all-time sack list with 141.5 sacks. He also holds the record for the most sacks in a single season with 22.5 in 2001.
