Stoops Burglary

Stoops Burglary, Two arrests have been made in the burglary case involving the home of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops.

Police in Norman told the media on Sunday, including the Associated Press, that a pair of individuals had been taken into custody. Video surveillance taken at the Stoops home recorded two suspects present, police said, and later surveillance video taken at a local business showed the same two suspects attempting to use a credit card that had been stolen in the Stoops burglary.

Police said more arrests could be forthcoming.

Stoops' home was burglarized Wednesday morning while the family was at home and asleep. No one was harmed, but a vehicle, cash and other items including the credit card were reported stolen.

The Oklahoman reported that Cleveland County court documents showed that Corey McCarty had been arrested on a complaint of first-degree burglary. Other complaints against McCarty include possession of stolen property, larceny of a motor vehicle and use of a stolen credit card.

According to the documents, McCarty was detained by police at a party early Saturday morning where he had discussed the Stoops burglary with another partygoer. He was taken to the Norman Police Department, where documents state he waived his Miranda rights and confessed to the burglary.

Police did not release the name of the second suspect, saying he was a juvenile.

The Norman P.D. released surveillance images during the week of the two suspects, asking for public help in identifying them.

Stoops and his family moved into the house last year. The home is located a little more than a mile, per Stoops, from the path of the tornado that ripped through central Oklahoma in May and whose cleanup Stoops anonymously joined.
