Beaten with skateboards, One of the father’s of the four teens arrested after a fight at a Huntington Beach park that left a man in critical condition denied his son was involved.
The man, who only identified himself by his first name, Richard, spoke on the condition that NBC4 News not show his face.
Richard said his 15-year-old son is among four teens who were booked on Friday into juvenile hall on attempted murder charges.
“My son did not hit this man,” he said. “He's scared that he's being wrongfully accused.”
A fight broke out at Murdy Park on Friday night between two groups of teenaged skateboarders, police said.
A woman tried to break up the argument when the teens turned on her and the woman's boyfriend jumped into help, police said.
But teens who witnessed it have a different account.
“She definitely didn't break up the fight because she ran and got a grown man with a screwdriver in his pocket,” said Collin Mammolite, a witness.
That’s when it turned violent, said Chandler Barrett, a 12-year-old witness.
“She's like, ‘I'll have my man do it’ … He pulled out a screwdriver and he was trying to grab them and stab them.
“He was absolutely trying to puncture one of those kids.”
A picture shows one of the kids who got stabbed in his left arm.
The teen that got stabbed was trying to help richard's son get away.
Richard's son told him they used their skateboards to defend themselves against the man.
“He was charging with the screwdriver,” Richard said. “My son turned and ran trying to keep him away from him.
“That's when another young man hit the man with a skateboard in the back of the head.”
The man, only described as in his 20s, was in critical condition at UCI Medical Center.
