Rhonda Carlsen runaway bus student opened the door, A runaway school bus pack with grade school kids is not a story you hear every day, so it shouldn’t be surprising when we tell you that a concerned mother jumped on the moving school bus to stop it. Well, two quick thinking mothers and a third grader stopped a school bus from coming to a horrific crash on Monday Morning.
One of the children’s mothers, Rhonda Carlsen saw that the bus driver was having a seizure on her route to Seven bar Elementary School in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Rhonda Carlsen was waiting with her children at the neighborhood bus stop when the driver drove right past them. She could hear the crying kids and noticed that something was wrong. Rhonda Carlsen’s daughter shouted that something was wrong with the bus driver and that is when Rhonda sprang into action.
Carlsen began running alongside the bus as she was banging on the door. In the meantime another mother and student were getting in touch with authorities.
Rhonda Carlsen made contact with one of the frightened children and signaled for him to open the door for her. The Seven bar Elementary Student opened the door and let Mrs. Carlsen onto the bus where she proceeded to bring it to a halt.
Some parents will consider her a hero but she just feels lucky that it happened in her neighborhood and not a bust street. She went to visit the bus driver in the hospital and he immediately asked how the children were.
Rhonda Carlsen said that this may have been a wake-up call that students and parents should know what to do in these types of emergency situations.
