Shawn Weimer let daughter drive because he was drunk, A U.S. father needed to make a late-night run to a gas station, but he couldn't drive because he was drunk.
So he got his nine-year-old daughter to be his designated driver.
Security camera footage records Shawn Russell Weimer bragging about how well his daughter drives. The two then leave the gas station convenience store and the girl hops into the driver's seat.
Listen, we're leaving. And she's driving. I'm drunk," he can be heard saying on the security footage. The clerk didn't believe Weimer, but followed him outside to see who was actually going to drive just to be safe.
"There is a big difference between saying it and actually doing it," says store manager Mak Makky to the Advisor & Source. "He was pacing back and forth and gibbering with a customer and the clerk. He announced he was drunk."
Once the clerk saw the girl get into the driver's seat, the clerk notified Makky and called the police.
When police pulled the big red van over, Weimer hopped out and the girl moved over to the passenger's seat. When police asked the girl why she was driving, she told them that her father lets her drive all the time. The girl asked the officer why she was pulled over, saying she was "driving great" and didn't do anything wrong.
Weimer told police that he only had a few drinks, but the police site smelling a strong odor of intoxicants. Weimer told police that he lets his daughter drive because it "was 3 a.m. and no one was on the road."
Lt. Robert Grant tells the Advisor & Source that the newly installed video cameras captured very damaging evidence.
The Detroit-area man, who already has a criminal record, has been charged with child endangerment. He is out of jail on a $25,000 personal bond and the preliminary exam is set for November 8.
