New York building collapse: Chinatown building explodes, leaves 12 wounded, A New York building collapse has left at least 12 people seriously injured after a Chinatown building suddenly exploded in a fiery blast, the Inquisitr reported this Thursday, July 11. The explosion allegedly caused not only major damage to the New York building, but aftershocks shook the surrounding neighborhood as well.

The New York building collapse that took place in Chinatown and wounded 12 people housed a local bus company on the ground floor, with apartment complexes located above. The fiery explosion occurred Thursday afternoon, confirm police officials, who responded to a 911 call after hearing that windows had been shattered and walls had been blown out from an abrupt shockwave that left the whole neighborhood shaken.

Although the cause of the building collapse in New York hasn’t been verified yet, it is believed by local law officials that pesticide canisters located inside the Chinatown venue could be the culprits of the blast. The building had partially collapsed by the time firefighters arrived, reporting that they could see the flames within the partially collapsed first floor.

A resident in the apartment complex upstairs said that the fiery explosion that caused the New York building collapse felt like an earthquake and sounded not unlike a bomb going off. Although he managed to make it out all right, he added in his statement that a female victim was being carried away in a stretcher with a severely burned leg.

“I heard ‘boom’,” said Yi Len, who experienced the sudden explosion.

The fire in the New York Chinatown building was put out in under an hour by city firefighters. A total of 12 people were wounded in the blast, with three people sent to local hospitals with serious injuries while several others being treated for minor cuts and burns.

In this New York building collapse, the NY Fire Department is currently looking into the possibility of fire code violations being part of the cause of the dangerous explosion.
