Tour de France 2013: Urine thrown at Mark Cavendish by angry fan, Tour de France 2013: Urine thrown at Mark Cavendish by angry fan, Mark Cavendish's day at the Tour de France didn't go as he planned, but it wasn't just his cycling that concerned him, it was the shower of urine a fan bestowed on him as he peddled through the race.
According to CNN on July 10, 2013, a Tour de France fan may have found a need to retaliate against a collision Cavendish had just 24 hours earlier by splashing urine on the athlete that many perceive to have an arrogant attitude at times.
A collision the day before with Tom Veelers was what kept the fan angry the next day as Cavendish rode through 33 kilometer individual run between Avranches and Mont-Saint Michel in Normandy. Even though the British rider was found not to be at fault for that collision, apparently that's not how an irate fan with a container of urine saw it.
In a sport where fans can actually stand at arms length to the riders, at times they can be sitting ducks if a spectator decides to take out their aggressions, much like Cavendish experienced with having urine thrown on him yesterday.
Riding the rest of the day urine soaked must have been uncomfortable for the British rider. He refused to talk about the incident at the end of the day, a day he probably just wants to forget about!
