Adrian Peterson on gay marriage

Adrian Peterson on gay marriage, When the Vikings cut former punter Chris Kluwe in early May, there was widespread belief that part of the reason he was let go was because the team viewed him as a distraction. Kluwe is an outspoken supporter of gay marriage.

Even though Kluwe's now gone, the distractions might not be for the Vikings.

Reigning NFL MVP Adrian Peterson weighed in on the hot topic of gay marriage during a radio interview on Sunday, and his opinion on the subject is the opposite of Kluwe's. "I have relatives who are gay," Peterson said on Sirius/XM NFL radio, via NESN. "I'm not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love 'em. But again, I'm not with that. That's not something I believe in. But to each his own."

The topic of gay marriage -- which will become legal in Minnesota on Aug. 1 -- came up when Peterson was asked about Kluwe and if he thought Kluwe was released because of his outspoken opinions on controversial topics like gay marriage. "I'm sure the Vikings organization didn't release him based on that," Peterson said. "They know Kluwe. They've been knowing him for a long time. They know he's outspoken."

Peterson and Kluwe may have different opinions on gay marriage, but Peterson still considers the former Vikings punter a friend. "It hurt me to see him leave," Peterson said. "He was a good friend of mine and a really cool guy. Probably one of the smartest guys I've ever been around, man ... Different."

Although Kluwe and former Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo seem to think an NFL player will come out in the near future, the opinions of guys like Peterson, Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Asante Samuel and Chris Clemons may keep that from happening anytime soon.

Ward doesn't think the NFL is ready for a gay player, Wallace doesn't get why "guys wanna mess with other guys" and both Clemons and Samuel believe that sexuality should be left at home.

American pro sports had slowly been inching towards having an active gay player and that finally happened on Sunday when Robbie Rogers debuted with the MLS' Los Angeles Galaxy.
