Christoph waltz, A day after a daring heist was carried out in Cannes, more drama hit the Croisette after what sounded like gunshots were fired near two of the film festival judges.
Christoph Waltz, who has won two Oscars, and French actor Daniel Auteuil were rushed to safety after a man nearby fired a gun during a live television interview and threatened to blow up the studio with a grenade.
Videos record the exact moment the man fired during the filming on Le Grand Journal, which is broadcast live every day from the Martinez beach, causing audience members to scatter. Waltz and Auteuil were said to have been left shaken by the events.
The man was bundled to the ground and arrested. Canal Plus went on with the show, announcing that no one had been injured. The host of the show Michel Denisot said the weapon contained blanks and the grenade was a fake.
An eyewitness to the event told The Hollywood Reporter that the police had told the crowd to run, adding: “I thought I heard them say: ‘Run, he has a gun’.”
This came just hours after thousands of pounds worth of jewellery were stolen from a hotel room in Cannes.
An employee of luxury Swiss jewellery designer Chopard had the items locked in a safe in her room, but thieves broke in and made off with it.
