Demi moore leech therapy, Celebrities are always looking for the latest thing to keep them young, and hirudotherapy is not out of bounds. Research in countries all over the world has proved that biologically active proteins in leech salivary gland secretions can influence better health for the entire body. Some research suggests improvement to cardiovascular, lymphatic and immune, nervous, respiratory, endocrine, digestive, urinary, reproductive, muscular, skeletal and even the skin, hair and nails.
No wonder, then, that Hollywood celebrity Demi Moore went on a talk show and boasted of her find in 2008 – a blood detoxification procedure she underwent in Austria first involving a turpentine bath (organic turpentine or Oleoresin is applied in chest, waist or joints). This part of the procedure is used to treat a number of diseases in Russia including hepatitis, high and low blood pressure and arthritis. She also had some hair removal done prior to the application of the leeches – Demi’s preference was a Brazilian wax.
The leeches used in Demi’s procedure were raised in captivity and are completely sterile. The leeches bite into the skin, which is when the enzyme Hirudin is released into the blood stream. This is where the blood cleansing and detoxification begins. This same therapy is used for a variety of medical procedures, but in this instance, the end goal was healthier and younger looking skin.
The application of leeches for improved body appearance and internal wellness has been in use for thousands of years. It was a popular practice with in medieval Europe and ancient Egyptian doctors and was reportedly used on Cleopatra. There aren’t many celebrities bigger than the most infamous Egyptian queen of all time.
Demi Moore swears that the secret of her hot and glowing skin is the leech therapy. It is possible the anti-clotting and anesthetic properties that expand the blood vessels not only detoxify the body, but also glorify the skin leaving it rejuvenated.
According to Demi, "I was in Austria doing a cleanse and part of the treatment was leech therapy. These aren't just swamp leeches though - we are talking about highly trained medical leeches. These are not some low-level scavengers - we're talking high-level blood suckers."
Hollywood is filled with celebrities more inclined toward ancient methods of healing and rejuvenation. Demi Moore claimed she was always looking for the cutting edge of therapies to enhance well-being; her Austrian body cleansing involving hirudotherapy was part of her search.
What is Hirudotherapy?
Hirudotherapy is the use of medicinal leeches to detoxify the body. The treatment dates back to the medieval period and was also used for curing skin diseases. In the modern day treatments, the European Medicinal Leech or Hirudo Medicinalis is commonly used.
The cosmetic benefits of the therapy would include improved blood circulation and reduced incidence of circulatory diseases and ailments. Detoxification of the blood would also have other health giving effects such as improved organ function from the reduction of toxins in the blood. An overall healthier immune and blood system would naturally lead to other benefits from the therapy including feeling and looking young and healthier.
