Seth macfarlane, Seth MacFarlane has confirmed for the second time that his controversial and divisive 2013 Oscars hosting stint, dubbed the "meanest" in history, will be a one-off.
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who are to produce the 2014 ceremony for the second year running, have reportedly been wooing the comic and film-maker to return for next year's ceremony after his turn at the mic resulted in a three-year high for US ratings despite decidedly mixed critical reactions. But MacFarlane buried suggestions that he might take the job for the 2014 show with a post on Twitter.
"Traumatised critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again," he wrote. "Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep." He then added: "However, I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business."
MacFarlane has previously said he would not host the Oscars again in the immediate wake of his controversial stint, which saw him pilloried in some quarters for jokes about female nudity, domestic violence and Jews in Hollywood. "The Oscars is basically the Kob[a]yashi Maru test," he tweeted in a reference to the unwinnable training scenario depicted in the Star Trek film series.
MacFarlane has a busy upcoming schedule and it was always going to be difficult for him to make the four-month commitment which hosting the Oscars is said to require under Zadan and Meron. He is currently working on comedy western A Million Ways to Die in the West, in which he will star alongside Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and Liam Neeson, and is planning a sequel to 2012 blockbuster comedy Ted.
