Amber alert: Where is Daphne Viola Webb?, Amber alert July 10, 2013: Have you seen this toddler? Her father reported her missing when she was allegedly taken from his parked car in front of a grocery store in East Oakland, Calif. The FBI is immediately on the case along with local officials, and the search for 21-month-old Daphne Viola Webb is continuing through the evening. The abduction reportedly occurred just after 11:00 a.m., when John Anthony Webb left the child alone in the car with an elderly/disabled relative. It's confirmed that he was in and out of the store briefly, buying just an energy drink. She was gone when he got back into the car. His relative was allegedly alone in the car at this point.
There are numerous questions that need to be asked in this case, but it's already shaping up to resemble the 2011 disappearance of Bianca Jones from Detroit, Mich. However, officials have acknowledged that John Anthony Webb is not a suspect (currently) in the disappearance of his little girl. Though it should be noted that detectives want to speak with people who can confirm that they've seen the girl and/or interacted with her over the course of the past 30 days. This in and of itself indicates at least a small level of suspicion (even if unofficial).
So far search dogs have been used in the case, but no findings have been publicized. It would be interesting to find out if the dogs can trace the girl's scent at all in the parking lot of the grocery store. If she was in that car, then there would be some sort of residual scent of the child leaving the car. Furthermore, it would be interesting to see if they are using cadaver dogs alongside SAR dogs. Cadaver dogs would detect post-mortem oils and skin particles. Using cadaver dogs would at least eliminate one theory in this strange disappearance.
