Kelly Clarkson in pilot of The Crazy Ones, It’s turning out to be quite a busy week for Kelly Clarkson. The original “American Idol” champ released a new single in “People Like Us,” performed the song on the show that first made her a star, and she also just so happened to tape a performance on a CBS comedy pilot that could be on the schedule in the fall.
The show in question here is the “Mad Men” spoof (at least by name, and by story), and it was series star Robin Williams who actually confirmed the following welcome news in a post on Twitter alongside his co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar and the singer.
This series marks a return for both these actors to TV after they have had some success there in the past; for Williams in particular, this is a medium that he never thought he would have an opportunity to really work in again after going into the movie business following his time on TV.
It’s unclear (save for singing) why Kelly is around the show’s set, since the series is based around a man (Williams) who helps run an ad agency with his daughter (Gellar).
Just based on the star power alone, you have to assume that this is a near-lock for CBS. They tend to attract older viewers who are familiar with Williams’ comedy stylings, and they should also be intrigued in seeing the one-time star of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in something designed solely to make you laugh rather than a drama a la “Ringer,” which was canceled on The CW after only one season.
What do you think about Kelly coming on for the pilot? If you want to read more about this show’s odds to be picked up, you can do so over at the link here.
