Colorado qb arrested

Colorado qb arrested, These are not good times for Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb. The Buffs' starter under center for much of the 2012 season is already in jeopardy of missing his entire senior season this fall after tearing an ACL in spring drills.

Now he's trying to explain to coach Mike MacIntyre why he was part of a 3 a.m. incident with Nebraska offensive lineman Alexander Lewis, a former CU teammate, that got both arrested on suspicion of second degree assault after Lewis apparently knocked a man unconscious by throwing him into a brick wall and parking kiosk.
Lewis, who announced he was transferring to CU's old, bitter rival on Friday after playing two years for the Buffs, is also facing two counts of harassment.

Before we go any further we should point out that Lewis admitted to police he consumed six glasses of wine, 10 beers and six shots of various other alcohols that night celebrating a friend's graduation. The fact that Lewis wasn't unconscious from drinking so much before the fight ever happened is a marvel.

According to a report in the Daily Camera in Boulder, Webb and Lewis crossed paths with Lee Bussey, a 22-year-old student at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Lewis and Bussey bumped into each other on the street and things escalated from there.

Witnesses told police that both players punched Bussey, but Lewis pushed him into a brick wall several times and into a parking kiosk, which knocked him unconscious. Considering Webb underwent a significant knee surgery a month ago, you have to wonder how significant his role was in the fight and why he allowed himself to get involved at all.

"Jordan's exact involvement in this incident is still being investigated," first-year CU coach Mike MacIntyre said in a statement. "We continually stress the importance of appropriate behavior to our players and do not tolerate any detrimental conduct in our football program. Once all of the facts come to light, if Jordan is found responsible for any misconduct, he will be disciplined according to team rules."

"As for Alex Lewis, as of Friday he was off of the team when he did a media interview and announced that he is transferring to Nebraska. Since he is no longer a Colorado Buffalo, it will be up to Nebraska to decide what discipline he might face."

MacIntyre originally said Webb was not expected to be able to play in 2013 after suffering his injury in an April practice and undergoing surgery. But when the NCAA indicated Webb would have no chance at a sixth season of eligibility because of the injury, MacIntyre said last week he hoped Webb would be able to return by October and contribute.

Webb's arrest over the weekend could put that in jeopardy. Regardless, junior Connor Wood emerged from spring as the clear leader to be the Buffs' starting QB this fall, but Wood is inexperienced with only one start under his belt. No other quarterback on the roster has played much, if at all, at the college level. That is the primary reason MacIntyre was hoping to have Webb back in the fall, even if he's not 100 percent.

As for Lewis, it remains to be seen if his arrest affects his standing with the Cornhuskers. It's doubtful coach Bo Pelini would pull the plug on his transfer because Lewis' father played in the program, but Pelini has to be disappointed to be bringing a guy to Lincoln who spent Mother's Day weekend in the clink on assault charges.
