New trailer for 'The Wolverine': Ghosts from the past haunt Logan

New trailer for 'The Wolverine': Ghosts from the past haunt Logan, A new trailer for the upcoming film, "The Wolverine," was released on Tuesday. The film, based on a classic tale in the comic book X-Men Wolverine mythos, is scheduled for a release this July.

The film's summary is as follows:

Set sometime after "X-Men: The Last Stand," Logan travels to Japan, where he engages a mysterious figure from his past in a fight that has lasting consequences.

Vulnerable for the first time, and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel, but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than ever before.

The film is based somewhat on the classic the 1982 four-issue Wolverine miniseries.

That limited series was published from September to December 1982, written by Chris Claremont with pencils by Frank Miller, inks by Joe Rubinstein, lettering by Tom Orzechowski, and coloring by Glynis Wein. Although Jackman earlier said that the film was not a direct sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," it does follow the last X-Men film in the original trilogy.

That is made clear by the introduction to the trailer. In it, Wolverine is seen "speaking" to Jean Grey, who reminds him that she died in "X-Men: The Last Stand" ... by his claws. The dream sequence then exits.

Later, he is approached by someone who says he can take away Logan's unique mutant power -- his rapid healing power, which basically makes him indestructible. Basically, as we will see, if the movie is true to the comics, in "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

The man tells Logan, “I can end your eternity. Make you mortal.” To that, Wolverine replies, “What they did to me…what I am…can’t be undone."

It appears that his "friend" keeps his promise, though. In a later segment in the two-and-a-half minute long trailer, Wolverine's rapid healing does not appear to be working and he appears to be in a lot of pain.

Wolverine is going to need that invulnerability restored, though, to be effective in "Days of Future Past."

The best part of the trailer is a fight between Wolverine and the Silver Samurai. The Silver Samurai, it appears, is twice Logan's size -- literally.

"The Wolverine" is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2013. It stars Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Will Yun Lee (as the Silver Samurai); Hiroyuki Sanada (as Shingen Yashida); Hal Yamanouchi (Yashida, the head of the Yashida clan to which Shingen belongs); Tao Okamoto (Mariko Yashida); Rila Fukushima (as Yukio, one of the deadliest assassins in Shingen’s clan); and Brian Tee (as Noburo Mori).
