Michelle Stafford confirms exit from ‘Y&R’: Emmy winner will miss fans, The speculation has ended and Phyllis Newman is indeed headed out of Genoa City on “The Young and the Restless” Michelle Stafford has confirmed.
“I would personally like to confirm to the fans that yes, I have decided to leave ‘The Young and the Restless,’” Soap Opera Digest reported on May 21. Michelle Stafford will end her time at “Y&R” sometime in mid-June. Stafford thanked fans for their constant support and love.
Stafford is leaving “Y&R” after 16 years, 10 Daytime Emmy nominations, one Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1997 and one Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series in 2004. Michelle Stafford portrayed Phyllis Summers on “The Young and the Restless” from 1994 until 1997. Stafford was replaced by actress Sandra Nelson until her return to “Y&R” in 2000.
There is no word yet on whether the character of Phyllis Newman will be written out of “The Young and the Restless.” Phyllis Newman’s son Daniel Romalotti, portrayed by Michael Graziadei, recently exited “The Young and the Restless.” Daniel Romalotti left town with Heather Stevens and his daughter Lucy for Savannah, Ga.
Phyllis Newman has been wrapped up in several front burner story lines involving her sister Avery, her daughter Summer and ex-husbands Nick Newman and Jack Abbott. It is not yet known how Michelle Stafford's exit will affect these story lines.
