Dalai Lama is celebrating his 78th birthday in Bylakuppe, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is now 78 years old. Phayul.com reported on July 5, 2013, The Dalai Lama to take part in 78th birthday celebrations in Bylakuppe. The Dalai Lama recently arrived in the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe to take part in his 78th birthday celebrations.

The birthday celebrations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama were scheduled to include an offering of a mandala to the Dalai Lama by the elected leader of the Tibetan people, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay. Tibetan students than planned dedication songs and inter-faith prayers for world peace and the long life of the Dalai Lama.

Biography.com writes that the Dalai Lama was born Lhamo Thondup on July 6, 1935 in Taktser, China. At 15 years old he assumed political power of Tibet as the Dalai Lama. When The People's Republic of China invaded that same year, due to fears of possibly being assassinated, he and thousands of followers fled to Dharamsala in northern India, where they established a government in exile.

A live webcast of the ceremony was scheduled from 9:00am – 11:30am IST on July 6.
