Target official apology many products carry the manatee gray label

Target official apology many products carry the manatee gray label,  Target apologized on Thursday after shoppers noticed that some plus-sized dresses sold on its website were labeled as “manatee gray.”

“What the. Plus sized women get ‘Manatee Grey’ while standard sizes are ‘Dark Heather Grey,’” Susan Clemens tweeted to Target’s twitter account.

Later that night, Target sent out an apology for the dress label.

“We apologize for this unintentional oversight & never intend to offend our guests. We’ve heard you, and we’re working to fix it ASAP,” the company tweeted back to Clemens.

Joshua Thomas, a spokesman with Target, told Forbes that “manatee gray” is a color used by Target for many of its products.

“We apologize for any discomfort this might have caused and are working to update the name of the dress to reflect Dark Heather Gray,” he said. “This was an unfortunate oversight and we’ll take it into consideration moving forward.”

And a company spokeswoman, Jessica Deede, elaborated to Fox News that the shade of gray “is actually a seasonal color that is used across product categories on Target.com, from apparel items to home items.”

Deede also told NBC’s “Today” show that “we never want to offend any of our guests. We apologize for any discomfort that we may have caused.”

Later, Clemens said that there was no outrage generated over the name, as reported by some media outlets.

“Would be great if the media (and the provoked), before re-reporting a story, would read a feed to see there’s no real outrage expressed,” she tweeted.

The item, Mossimo Women’s Plus-Size Kimono Maxi Dress, was removed from the company’s website.

It was not the first time a retailer generated controversy over a color name.
