"Saved By The Bell," "Knight Rider" among shows returning as comic books, Zack Morris and his friends from Bayside High are finally coming back...in comic form.
NBCUniversal has partnered with Lion Forge Comics to release a series of digital graphic novels based on the iconic TV shows "Saved By The Bell," "Airwolf," "Knight Rider," "Miami Vice" and "Punky Brewster."
"We're excited to give fans a chance to revisit some of their favorite shows and characters in a completely new way," Chris Lucero, director of global consumer products licensing for NBCUniversal Television, said in a press release.
Some of these shows are still fondly remembered today by a nostalgic generation of TV viewers now in their twenties, thirties and forties who grew up watching programs like "Punky Brewster" after school each day in the 1980s and early '90s.
"From hugely popular characters such as Crockett and Tubbs, Zack Morris and Punky Brewster to highly stylized music and clothing choices, these TV franchises have had a significant impact on pop culture," said Lion Forge CEO David Steward.
"We here at Lion Forge are looking forward to extending that influence by creating visually appealing and entertaining experiences on mobile devices for a whole new generation of fans."
Writers on the projects include Joelle Sellner ("Teen Titans," "Jackie Chan Adventures") and Jonathan London from Geekscape.
The digital comics are expected to be released over the course of this fall and winter through the Amazon Kindle Bookstore, Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble's The Nook Book Store and Kobo.
