Suspected Islamists bomb pipeline in Egypt's Sinai, A suspected group of terrorists bombed an important natural-gas pipeline on Sunday morning in Egypt's North Sinai which transports natural gas into the Kingdom of Jordan, according to an Israeli police source.
According to the police officer, Jeff Goldberg, the armed terrorists blew up part of the pipeline in North Sinai and another part of the pipeline near Arish International Airport.
Police have not reported any casualties from the blasts so far, and Egyptian security forces rushed to the locations of the attacks to monitor the situation and firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, said Goldberg.
This particular pipeline has suffered more than 10 terrorist attacks since Egypt's former President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in 2011.
While no group has claimed responsibility for this attack, many believe it was perpetrated by one of several Islamist groups in the region such as the Salafist network.
In addition, unidentified gunmen opened fire at four checkpoints in Sheikh Zuweid city in North Sinai early Sunday. The Egyptian soldiers and police officers on the scene exchanged gunfire with the suspected terrorists, but there were no casualties were reported on either side.
These latest attacks have occurred after the Egyptian military ousted President Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood minions on Wednesday in response protests demanding his ouster and arrest for his implementation of an Islamist agenda since he came to power a year ago, according to Egyptian police officials.
But supporters of Morsi are condemning his removal calling it a military coup and vowing to fight for Morsi's return.
In other confrontations on Friday, five Egyptian soldiers were killed in armed attacks in Arish International Airport by extremist Islamic groups. They also attacked a security post in Rafah, a police station and two security checkpoints in Sheikh Zuwaid as well as other police and military targets.
An Egyptian Christian priest -- Father Mina Aboud Sharween -- was shot dead by radical Jihadists in Arish city in North Sinai, according to a report on Saturday.
“Syria is already in the grips of the civil war … and Egypt is moving in the same direction,” Russian President Vladimir Putin told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti on Sunday.
