Yobe school killings: 42 killed at Nigeria school

Yobe school killings: 42 killed at Nigeria school, Yobe school killings left 42 people killed in Nigeria. On July 8, The Inquisitr reported that Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has shut down all secondary schools following the attacks. Boko Haram Islamists are being blamed for the slayings. Students and adults were paraded into rooms and explosives were then thrown at them according to the report.

The schools have been closed as a precaution but they will not reopen until September. These attacks have been going on for three years but the most recent murders have really taken a toll and have caused the governor to take action.

The Yobe school killings have caused the government to look into ways that they can assure the protection of students and teachers at the schools. Over the next couple of months, the Governor says that he's going to work diligently to find a way to "improve communications" so that schools can get help quicker in the future.

"Earlier this year, Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in Yobe. Jonathan sent troops to the state and also cut of communications to stop Boko Haram groups from communicating with each other. Unfortunately, this has left citizens without a means to report suspicious activity," The Inquisitr reports. Obviously this is a catch-22.

The recent Yobe school killings were mild compared to attacks in 2012. According to the report, over 600 people were killed by Boko Haram that year.
