Lego space jump

Lego space jump, Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner safely completed his 24-mile freefall space jump, setting three new records and establishing himself as an all-around badass. The stunt (or, technically, the mission) drew attention across the globe, with a record 8 million viewers tuning in to watch live.

So with all this hype, it was really only a matter of time before the LEGO reenactment appeared. The video condenses the mission — which, including Baumgartner’s slow ascent toward space, lasted several hours — into a less than two-minute synopsis.

The stop-motion short isn’t just a tribute to Baumgartner’s feat — it’s also a promotion for Vienna’s Model Maker Fair, which will run from October 25 to 28. The turnaround on this project was certainly impressive — the video hit YouTube shortly after Baumgartner landed in the New Mexico desert Sunday afternoon.

Relive the original feat (in non-LEGO format) here. Or, if you find yourself sick of the deluge of content flowing from Felix-mania, just enjoy the above cinematic gem, if nothing else than for its creative use of everyone’s favorite childhood toys.
