Nicolas Cage Owed IRS $14 Million, The 47-year-old star made the hefty payment, which covers his 2007 back taxes , on February 15, 2012. Cage told People magazine in 2010 that he owed $14 million in back taxes. Though it is unclear whether the actor has made additional payments, it is estimated that he still owes around $7 million.
“Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes,” Cage told People. “However, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to-be-determined state taxes.”
Nicolas Cage has been slapped with several tax liens and other debts throughout the past few years. He has owned several homes and even an island in the Bahamas and has lost at least three houses in foreclosure auctions.
Cage recently settled a $13 million lawsuit with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton, the mother of their 20-year-old son. Fulton, who dated the actor for several years in the 1980s, had claimed Nicolas Cage failed to transfer ownership of a house to her after promising to do so and told her he would support her and Weston Coppola Cage financially.
Nicolas Cage has been married three times – the first time to Patricia Arquette, then to Lisa Marie Presley and finally to his current wife, former waitress Alice Kim. The couple has one son, Kal-El, who is named after Superman’s birth name. The actor made headlines in April 2011 after being arrested on charges of domestic abuse battery and disturbing the peace for being intoxicated in public.
Cage’s most recent movie, “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” hit theaters on February 17. It is the sequel to the 2007 film “Ghost Rider” also starring Cage. Last year, the actor starred in “Season of the Witch” and “Drive Angry 3D.” Cage won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in the 1995 movie, “Leaving Las Vegas.”
Nicolas Cage comes in sixth place on the Forbes list of the Most Overpaid Actors. Cage has put out a slew of movies in the past year, but unfortunately most of them didn’t do well at the box office. The actor will next appear in the action film “Stolen,” which is slated for release later this year.
