6 dead Chicago shootings, including 3 teens, as holiday weekend turns violent, The Chicago shootings reflect a rise in violence over the Memorial Day weekend. Among those dead in the six shootings are at least three teens, UPI reported.
In one shooting incident on Friday night, a 17-year-old girl was shot in the head and killed, and an 18-year-old boy was shot in the chest and injured. Later that night, another 18-year-old boy was shot and killed.
The Chicago shooting violence continue on Saturday when Gregory Dixon, 29, was shot to death about half a mile from President Barack Obama’s Kenwood neighborhood home. Dixon had unwittingly buzzed the shooters into his apartment, and they attacked him.
The shootings continued when yet another 18-year-old was shot in the head on Saturday, this time in a possible drive-by, police said.
The Memorial Day weekend violence in Chicago continued on Sunday, when Malcolm Dobbey, 27, was found shot to death in a backyard.
The most recent of the six fatal shootings in the Chicago area happened early Sunday morning in the Goose Island area of the city’s north side after a road rage incident.
Charles Jones, 42, manager of a gentleman’s club, was shot to death in a confrontation with another motorist, whose Buick LaCrosse had sideswiped Jones’ Maserati, police said. When Jones pulled over to talk to the driver of the Buick, the driver and a passenger in the car walked to another vehicle and then came back. One of them had a gun and fatally shot Jones, police said.
With yet another day left in the long holiday weekend, it can only be hoped that the six dead in the Chicago shootings doesn’t turn into seven, or worse.
