Boyfriend Wrecks Danica Patrick And She’s Not Happy, Uh oh. A wreck with Danica Patrick, boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and a third driver is just one of the awkward incidents at Sunday night’s whackadoo Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, NC. But the third driver, Brad Keselowski, has already stepped forward to take the blame.
Although Keselowski has accused Patrick of being an uncompetitive driver in the past, the Sprint Cup Champion admitted to Sporting News that he was the one who messed up this time:
“I just cut Danica off. I didn’t know she was still down there and I caused a big wreck. I cut her off and wrecked her and myself. I feel bad for her and I send my apologies to her.”
Despite the gentlemanly attempt to keep Stenhouse out of the Patrick doghouse, several observers felt that Stenhouse could shoulder at least some of the blame for the wreck. Several media reports said that the accident was caused when Stenhouse drifted up to clip Patrick’s car, which is what pushed her somewhat up the track.
As a result, she clipped Keselowski — and all three of them ultimately ended up in the collision which destroyed Keselowski’s car.
Patrick and Stenhouse were able to go on, but Patrick hit the wall again later to finish 29th. According to USA Today, she was furious and stomped off without any comment to their reporter.
But ESPN said that “the tone in Patrick’s voice over the radio and replay indicated Stenhouse played a role.”
Unlucky Stenhouse ended up getting entangled in a second wreck later. He ended up 14th.
Kevin Harvick survived the unplanned demolition derby to take his second Coca-Cola 600 win in only three years.
