American idol season 10, The “American Idol” summer tour is getting a major haircut. According to a May 31 report by The Hollywood Reporter, the first three weeks of the Season 12 summer tour have been canceled – nine shows in all – in cities that include Detroit, Kansas City, and Las Vegas. The cancellations account for a quarter of the tour’s original schedule.
A tour spokesman gave little information on the reason behind the cancellations, releasing a statement that said: "Due to production scheduling changes, the American Idol 2013 Tour will now begin on July 19th and go through the summer until August 31st. The Idols look forward to performing in 30 venues across the country."
The nine-concert cancellation is the latest blow to a franchise that had a very bad year.
For cities that still have an “American Idol Live!” concert date scheduled (the closest dates for Philly fans include Reading and Newark) the 2013 tour features this season’s winner, Candice Glover, as well as the Top 10 contestants Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch Jr., Devin Velez, Janelle Arthur, Kree Harrison, Lazaro Arbos, and Paul Jolley. Fan pick Aubrey Cleland will also perform on the tour. You can see the complete list of scheduled concert dates here.
This isn’t the first time an “Idol” tour has dropped dates. In 2010, seven dates were canceled for the Season 10 tour, according to the New York Times. No reason was given for the 2010 cancellations, but after this season’s dismal “American Idol” ratings, it’s not farfetched to assume that slow tickets sales are the reason behind the cancellations for this year’s tour.
