News crew attack: Rock, bat and dog bite end TV news interview in R.I., A news crew attacked in Rhode Island was covering a story, but they ended up as the story themselves. The members of the TV news crew attacked, a reporter and camera man from WLNE-TV, were covering a kindergarten graduation shooting story at the time, according to Boston.com on June 6, 2013.
A Rhode Island woman has been arrested for attacking this news crew herself and for directing her dogs to attack, which they did. Melissa Lawrence, the mother of the victim in the kindergarten shooting story, threw a rock at the news crew, picked up a bat screaming, “get away from me,” and directed her two pit bulls to attack the news crew. The dog did bite news reporter, Abbey Niezgoda, on her forearm. She was treated with a tetanus shot.
The attack was caught on camera and that video has gone viral today. Lawrence was arrested then released on her own personal recognizance. She also entered a plea of not guilty for the charges brought against her in this news crew attack. This is a woman who just lost her child in a shooting, maybe it wasn't the time to try and get the story from a grieving mother?
