Shot senior graduation: Shot senior seen as 'miracle' inspiration, A shot senior's graduation from Northwestern High School in Detroit Tuesday inspired fellow classmates and the community when he got his diploma.
Senior Balaal Hollings was shot in the head two months ago when he jumped in to help after a fight broke out at a party. Yahoo reports June 5 that his credentials include being the class president, an honor student, and football star.
Hollings didn't go back to school after being shot, but the senior returned to collect his diploma at the ceremony.
The shot senior arrived unexpectedly at the graduation ceremony with a helmet on instead of a cap. Applause and shouts of joy came about from the crowd as he appeared.
“It is so good to be alive,” Hollings said. The senior said he's “fully rehabilitated."“
He also added, I forgot a lot of things. I forgot how to walk. I forgot how to talk. I didn’t forgot how to eat.”
Since the shot senior is unable to attend school on a football scholarship due to his injury, he plans to study criminal justice.
